Purpose
In 2024, St Paul’s Catholic School (Ngāruawāhia) were successful in their application to the Waikato Environmental Education Fund regarding their Project Kaitiaki o Ngāruawāhia:
St Paul’s Catholic School in Ngāruawāhia recently gave back in ‘spades’ to local group Predator Free Hakarimata. Over the past 3 years Predator Free Hakarimata have been supporting the school at various events. In gratitude for the enormous number of volunteer hours that Greg and other locals are putting in to bring back the birds to the area, Lead Teacher Berny Koppens successfully applied for funding from the Pukemokemoke Education Fund to run a planting day for the landowners who are involved in the group.
Overview
Teaching children to be active stakeholders in their learning by partnering up with community members to learn and be active in the community. To improve hauora and overall outcomes for akonga by becoming kaitaki of their community, history, future and learning pathways. To work with Predator Free Hakarimata to plant a section of land on the Huntly side of the Hakarimata Ranges.
